Study & perform with internationally renowned musicians
The 2017 Northern Lights Chamber Music Institute is pleased to announce that violin professor Soh-Hyun Park Altino of University of Wisconsin at Madison will join the institute faculty in addition to the faculty roster in the brochure!
Korean-born violinist Soh-Hyun Park Altino is highly regarded as a gifted teacher and a versatile performer of solo and chamber music. Praised for her “poise and precision,” her concert engagements have taken her to Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Korea, Venezuela and throughout the United States, including festivals as Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall, Tanglewood, Duxbury Music Festival, Festival de Inverno Campos do Jordão and Festival Virtuosi in Brazil, and the Academy y Festival Nuevo Mundo in Venezuela. Prior to joining the faculty at UW-Madison in 2015, she taught violin and chamber music at the University of Memphis for fourteen years and directed the String Intensive Study Program at the Masterworks Festival. Dedicated to continuing education of performers and teachers, she has presented master classes and workshops at universities in the U.S. and abroad. Her main teachers include Violaine Melançon at the Peabody Institute and Donald Weilerstein at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degrees.
Join violinists Ariana Kim, Young-Nam Kim and now Soh-Hyun Park Altino, violist Sally Chisholm and cellist Leonardo Altino as they lead you through eight days of intense chamber music study. Between coached rehearsals and master classes, you will have many opportunities for one-on-one conversations. A camp fire at night, the Northern Lights in the sky, and the sound of loons on the lake will lull you to sleep each night after a day packed with musical adventures and outdoor fun. At the end of the week, you will enjoy the rare opportunity of performing with your faculty, fellow students, and community musicians at three distinctive public concerts.
